Yes it's good to discuss and it's an challenging area both in a common research aspect but even more for this project. We need something that is mature right now as we are in progress of actually deploying services based on WSN. Research focus is now CoAP, MQTT, pure TCP or UDP on ip6 or NAT/GW to ipv4.
So far we're using a simple and very efficient with RIME/IP via sensd and have successfully installed and been able run and debug in may installations. The research focus is on much more complex protocols over ipv6 or 6lowpan. Should we go this way? Should we go now. Is this mature? Can it be debugged etc. Many questions. Anyway we must keep up we the advances and research. For this reason we're trying gather information code and examples. Wit collective efforts we've come a long way... still this road can be very long and we don't where is ends.
MQTT you need to install brooker and support utiltites.
CoAP is one IETF creations. It is an IETF draft for brooker.
An example of sending tag format encoded with UDP with 6lowpan and using RPL routing protocol.
To link IEEE805.15.4 link with ethernet and even NAT to an ipv4 address.
And now also a sensd_client sending TCP to send with usual sensd format and can be used with IP64NAT/GW connecting to standard sensd.
Or we come back to or simple non-IP broadcast network and let the GW sensd terminate or initiate all IP-sessions.
