Continuing the discussion from Jobs Output on the Africa Science Gateway:
Unfortunately - and @roberto_barbera, @GiuseppeLaRocca_551a and @MarioTorrisi_f8dd can correct me if I'm wrong here - there is no data management with the Africa-Grid Science Gateway. There used to be a fantastic data gateway which Riccardo Rotondo and @MarcoFargetta worked on some time back, but it was decommissioned.
This is one of the main drawbacks of the default gateway as it stands now - it's meant to be a demonstrator, not a production system.
Of course there are many ways to manage data on the grid (it's one of the things that distributed infrastructures excel at), , but these have to be implemented. The most basic way is to store data on storage distributed on the sites, and register metadata about it (location, name, etc) in a metadata server - gLibrary. We could well envisage a science gateway which implements a few of the "data upload", "data register" functions, but that will take a few weeks. We can also think about integrating the FTS API for scheduled data movement.
At the moment, you need to use the gateway a simply an interface between your computer and the gridcloud, and all data flows between it - so upload and download endpoints are your laptop.
Remember - sgw.africa-grid.org is just a demonstrator and catch-all place to show what can be done. For specific uses, we can build a specific gateway
