We had an interesting meeting today with the H3ABioNet system administrators task force. They ship data between mostly known locations : http://www.h3abionet.org/home/consortium
They face an issue of understanding the performance of data transfers between points on this network, something which is usually investigated at the NREN level with a PERT activity or something similar. Previous work in SA using perfSONAR has really helped to diagnose throughput issues on known paths, e.g. in the case of LHC experiments in SA. Roderick and @KasandraIsaac_b200 can provide more details.
Whilst SANREN can and is helping to diagnose and improve throughput to points H3ABioNet points in South Africa, once the traffic leaves the NREN, it's more difficult to diagnose. We would need some help from WACREN to put down perfSONAR endpoints in H3ABioNet sites which are part of the WACREN constituency.
Not all of the sites in West Africa are connected to WACREN member NRENS, though. One example I could perhaps think of is Covenant University... but there are definitely others. @Omo.Oaiya , @OwenIyoha_52c6 - would WACREN or ekoKonnect be interested in supporting this by helping to run network performance tests ?
